In depth

Verdict

A maximum field for the first leg of the Autumn Double but the three-year-olds appear to hold most of the aces. Frankie and John Gosden are looking for back-to-victories and team up with the lightly-raced Lord North, a staying-on second over a mile off this mark at Ascot, but Ryan Moore is on board LE DON DE VIE for Hughie Morrison. A winner over a mile at Epsom at the start of the season, the latter got back to winning ways over 1m2f at Goodwood last month. The second was just beaten in a competitive handicap at Newbury last time while the third has won easily since at Yarmouth and proven stamina will be an asset in what is always a strongly-run affair. Good Birthday is only 3lb higher than when winning last time at Beverley and Fifth Position runs in his first handicap having been highly tried since winning a Nottingham novice event in April. Dark Vision, now visored, won a Group 2 as a juvenile but has only shown glimpses of that form this year. Majestic Dawn could figure, however, granted luck in-running. Of the older horses, Mordin was second last year but is still 9lb higher while Dubai Horizon might need this, though has Cieren Fallon’s claim in his favour. Queen of Time has competed in Listed company the last twice and could be at interesting at a price while Beringer may also have a better chance than his odds suggest.
