In depth

Verdict

The vote sways in Baby Houseman's favour and John Gosden's filly is taken to lead her rivals a merry dance. She was friendless in the market ahead of her Goodwood debut but overcame that negative and her inexperience to run out an impressive winner from a decent yardstick. Connections thought that she had the potential to make her mark at Listed level this season and she should be able to win from her initial rating before stepping up in grade. Maghya is weighted to reverse Thirsk form with Princess Taylor but there's very little to choose between the pair although this track may suit the Haggas filly better than Thirsk. Steam Cuisine was due to race on Thursday and it remains to be seen whether she takes her chance here; she'd be a live player if doing so, particularly if the heavens open and the ground turns soft. Aphrodisia needs to take another step forwards and Star Of Gibraltar has a little to prove dropping back in trip but may just have needed her latest run. An interesting little heat which can see Baby Houseman take centre stage.
