In depth

Verdict

A chance is taken with Screwdriver, who is unexposed at the trip and edges a slender vote over Party Boss and Council Member. The Godolphin operation have turned a corner lately and it will not come as a major surprise if Council Member does his bit to boost their haul. He is a tough individual and, as a product of the 'boys in blues' breeding programme from last year, he will be expected to deliver sooner rather than later. Party Boss has been a revelation for Clive Brittain and owes nobody anything after wining six of his 10 previous starts. He drops to what is probably his best trip today and can be relied upon to run his usual race. However, Screwdriver is far less exposed at this stage and, with the form of his Epsom success looking solid, he gets the vote to follow up today
