In depth

Verdict

Greek Renaissance, another Godolphin recruit, is fancied to win here at the main expense of Advanced and Zidane. The selection, formerly with Marcus Tregoning, showed that he is in good form with a win at Yarmouth last month. That was his first start in the UK since running in Nad Al Sheba and retaining his ability shown last year, he can win today. He is yet to win on softer than good but he has run well on soft ground in the past and likely to get the strong pace which is ideal, he can record his fifth win in twelve starts. The ground may prove a hindrance to some of these, namely Assertive, Borderlescott and Beckermet, whilst Fullandby should appreciate underfoot conditions. Presto Shinko was very promising last year but doesn't look the same horse twelve months on, so a more eminent threat could come from Zidane. A hold up performer, he will need luck in running late on but adept on soft ground he mustn't be overlooked with Jamie Spencer aboard. Old-timer Patavellian has a squeak if anywhere near his best, whilst Baltic King is not in the best form of late. Irish raider Confuchias is of interest as an improving three-year-old who handles the ground. Knot In Wood has a big race in him at some point but it may come when back in handicap company, so whilst Opera Cape should go well for Frankie on ground that suits, it is the apparent second string Greek Renaissance who gets the nomination.
