In depth

Verdict

Alanbrooke ran well when third behind stable companion Yes Mr President at Haydock recently and Mark Johnston's colt has every chance off the same mark today over a trip that may suit but preference is for SAGA DE TERCEY, who gets the vote with Bernie The Bolt rated the best of the rest. The selection, a bumper winner on his only start under National Hunt rules, not surprisingly has shown improved form of late for being stepped up in trip and Alan Swinbank's gelding can confirm Thirsk form from last month with Ragamuffin Man off a 5lb higher mark. Kevin Ryan's Double Banded ran better at Chester last time but he is not the most consistent of performers and of more interest may be Aajel. Marcus Tregoning's gelding has shown improved form in winning his last two starts in handicaps at Yarmouth in tidy fashion but a 10lb rise for the latest of them gives the five-year-old a more difficult chance to day. John Quinn's Aleatricis has been running consistently well and suggested by the way that he finished at Chester last time that he would not be inconvenienced by the longer trip today. Epsom Salts has more to do than when winning for the second time this season at Epsom last week and of more interest may be Bernie The Bolt. Andrew Balding's gelding came good at the seventh time of asking when landing a Lingfield maiden last month and ran well back in a handicap when a length third behind Akmal at York subsequently. The vote though goes the way of Saga de Tercey, who looks to be going the right way on the flat now with this longer trip likely to bring about further improvement.
