      Verdict

The only two of these with racecourse form Sign Writer and Never Away were well beaten on their debuts and this is likely to go to one of the newcomers with the vote going to Fighting Tom Cat, who is preferred to Pianoforte. The last mentioned is an American bred trained by David Loder whose two-year-olds are back in form again now. He is sure to know what is required first time out. Sir Michael Stoute and Henry Cecil both introduce interesting debutantes in the shape of Basic System and Camacho respectively. Either could be good enough to play a part in the finish and the market may provide the best guide as to their chances. Brian Meehan's juveniles normally need their first start so the likelihood is that Fongtastic will come on for the run and of more interest may be the Barry Hills-trained Desert Demon, who is by Unfuwain. He may need further though and preference is for Fighting Tom Cat. Godolphin have done with their two-year-old runners this term, with most of them showing up well first time out so it would come as no surprise to see the well bred son of Storm Cat taking a hand here. He looks the logical choice in a race where there is little to go on.
