Verdict

Whenever, Swingkeel and Lady Dedlock are the three that make most appeal here with Richard Phillips's gelding taken to confirm the promise of his first two starts. He has been given plenty to do on both occasions and has finished strongly each time. He has been raised by a pound after each outing but clearly has the scope to win from around this mark if John Egan can time his run to better effect. He is versatile with regard to underfoot conditions. In Swingkeel, he meets a typically progressive stayer from Castle Stables and a 6lb rise for his two and a quarter length defeat of Lady Dedlock at Lingfield is reasonable. That came on fast ground but he has run well enough on soft for any worsening of the ground not to be a major concern. Heavy ground suits Bollin Felix well but a 9lb rise for a cosy success in a less competitive race than this leaves him looking vulnerable and a bigger threat may come from the fillies Dolly Penrose and Lady Dedlock. The former handled the York mud better than her rivals before disappointing on fast ground at Sandown; she could bounce back with more ease in the ground. Jamie Poulton's runner continues to progress and should be in the mix again but is likely to find at least one too strong. Timing of the run will be crucial but we'll be hoping that now is the time for Whenever.
