In depth

Verdict

A race which is steeped in tradition and is noted more for its historical relavance than anything else. With no prize money on offer all horses are owned by Jockey Club members. Sumner is the one horse that on form alone looks the winner. He has winning form at Salibury and Pontefract this season and is now six pounds higher for his troubles. This looks well within his grasps and with a small field he should get the luck in running to land himself in the winners enclosure once more. Sister Maria will pose as his biggest danger as she won off a mark of seventy three at Windsor in June and is still fairly treated off a three pound higer mark. She has been knocking on the door of late and can again run well. Royal Fantasy looks a horse that runs well fresh as she won on her return to the track but has since been disappointing. She finished sixth of ten in a fillies handicap at Newbury last time out and will have to raise her game to trouble the judge here. So for the winner we return to Sumner.
