The value has long since gone about Pedrillo becoming the fourth representative from the Sir Mark Prescott yard landing this valuable prize since 1988, so a chance on the ultra-game Impeller, who has dropped several hints that he has a big race within him and he can deliver on the promises today. Gatwick, St Andrews and Ice Palace are others that make plenty of appeal on this season's form, but are unlikely to represent anywhere near the early odds available about the selection, while Chinkara can also go well at a generous price for each-way players looking to cover a few bases. Conversely, a low draw makes the task ahead for Courageous Duke, Take A Bow and Audience a very difficult one, and they will need plenty of luck in running to gain a prominent early position. Back with the leading contenders: Pedrillo is a typically lightly raced type, whose trainer has plotted a canny path towards this contest. The 5lb penalty he picks up for winning a classified stakes at Hamilton was a necessity for race entry and should not unduly worry his supporters. More of a concern is his lack of experience in a field of this size and, from the middle of the stalls, there has to be the suspicion that he could be worried out of things as events unfold. Gatwick has been kept busy throughout the campaign and can usually be relied upon to give his all. Mick Channon, who went close with Checkit in this last year, has his string in top order and a bold again bid looks assured from his classy performer. The ground is a slight concern for St Andrews, as he will appreciate every drop of rain, should any hit the Cambridgeshire course before the off. Michael Jarvis has brought him back just in the nick of time and, assuming that last week's exertions at Haydock have not taken much out of him, he will be in there pitching when they bear down on the line. A longer absence for Ice Palace is of little relevance as she is sure to be turned out in top order by James Fanshawe. However, the daughter of Polar Falcon, who is closely matched with Flighty Fellow on these terms, faces a stiff test at the weights as she bids to emulate 2000 winner Katy Nowaitee in landing this for the fairer sex. Others make slightly more appeal. Especially when the huge prices that have been quoted about Impeller are taken into account. Willie Muir's charge is well suited to the hustle and bustle of these cavalry charges and has gone very well at this course in the past. The five-year-old also fits the profile of past winners, in that he has proved his stamina over slightly further than this. Therefore, with his stamina and resilience not in question, Impeller has the correct attributes for one that can spoil the party for those that have already booked their seats at another Prescott-inspired celebration party after this.
