Verdict

Newsplayer gets a confident vote to land the 'getting out stakes' under Richard Johnson, with the main threats coming from Deb's Son, Broom Close and Bold Cardowan. The selection, trained by Richard Phillips, would have gone very close to recording his first win over hurdles at Ayr last time, but was badly hampered at the second last flight and can be considered an unlucky loser. He had started a warm favourite that day on the back of some promising efforts and can repay the faith of his supporters this evening. The booking of AP McCoy certainly catches the eye for Bold Cardowan, who won this race last year and shaped as though three miles would definitely suit when fifth at Fontwell last time, and John Berry's gelding looks the main danger. Deb's Son won a weak race in a first time visor at Sedgedield last time but it remains to be seen whether the headgear has the same effect this time, while Broom Close won over two and a half miles here two runs ago, but is not sure to stay this trip.
