In depth

Verdict

A competitive race in which Sierra Vista can continue his rise up the echelons of sprint handicaps although Rising Shadow and Tom Forest rate highly. David Barker's charge was slightly disappointing at Haydock on his most recent start but this course at Newcastle has suited him fine in the past and another bold front-running bid can be anticipated. Rising Shadow was staying on into third on that day and should be competitive given the pull at the weights. It is interesting that connections have not sought to run again following that display. Tom Forest rates as the surprise package. He has been campaigned over seven furlongs in the past but certainly has appeared speedy enough to make his mark over six and he is drawn on the rail. Dizzy In The Head makes a first start for Ian Semple having previously raced under the patronage of Paul Johnson. Inter Vision continues to run well and is much better than his most recent form figure suggests. Apex is another to have caught the eye with his most recent piece of track work and is another watched in the market. Snow Wolf's best efforts are over 5f while Kings College Boy was a recent winner albeit in a modest time at Sandown. The bottom six in the handicap are all having to race from above their official ratings and look to have difficult tasks. Sierra Vista is forgiven a modest run at Haydock and can continue David Barker's fantastic season.
