Verdict

Mark Johnston won this last year with Tartan Gunna and today's entry, Tartan Gigha, has dropped to a very lowly mark. With first-time blinkers applied, he's definitely on the short-list. Considering his age, it was astonishing to see Extraterrestrial raised 10lb for his victory at Thirsk but he ran well enough at Epsom subsequently, where he was just in front of stablemate Arabian Spirit, to be considered for this. The handicapper has been unable to drop Charlie Cool because of his consistency but he scored from this mark at Ripon a year ago and James Sullivan's claim will help. Prince Of Dance hasn't won for a while but he's now well handicapped and showed a bit more sparkle at Haydock and though Vito Volterra is 10lb higher than for his latest success over 7f here he's in such good form that he can't be dismissed. COLLATERAL DAMAGE, runner-up in this a year ago, is on a 12lb lower mark and hopefully can recapture enough of his old form to take this competitive affair.
