In depth

Verdict

Jim Goldie's Grandad Bill had to pull out all of the stops to win at Musselburgh last month and an 8lb rise for that success looks very harsh and he will be find it hard to win again off his new mark so preference is for GLINGERBANK, who can reverse Kelso running with Cassius. Bruce Mactaggart's gelding won with something in hand when landing that Kelso race, easing down towards the finish and beating the selection by eight lengths, but that was on testing ground and the going today is less likely to suit him as much as it will the Nicky Richards-trained gelding who has a 13lb pull in the weights. Alan Swinbank's Sir Tantallus Hawk could probably do with some help from the handicapper, while Pontop could appreciate any further drying of the ground but any rain would hinder his chances. L'Eau Du Nil has been running well on testing ground for Andy Haynes of late and will not mind the better ground today so he has to be respected but preference is for Glingerbank, who can get the better with his Kelso conqueror Cassius at the revised weights on this ground.
