Verdict

WESTERN RULES travelled strongly and quickened in impressive fashion when a hot favourite over course and distance on debut. Nicky Richards' Westerner gelding may be destined for better things and should defy his penalty. Starplex made a winning start here a year ago but had his limitations exposed at Sedgefield in February and hasn't raced since. Calivigny went backwards last time at Ayr but Ben Pauling's winning pointer Showboater could be interesting and Midnight Monty, who is by Midnight Legend out of the Reveley's prolific winning hurdler Marello, is one to note for future reference.
