In depth

Verdict

Ben Chorley, First Victory and Jake the Snake make the shortlist here, with Ben Chorley the selection. First Victory won gamely at Beverley two ouitings ago, and though beaten since into fourth, races off only a three pound higher mark than when successful. He has run well on a soft surface and is given a chance. Jake The Snake is lightly raced and re-appeared after a two year absence to score at Kempton. Just touched off at Headquarters last time, he is harshly raised four pounds here and is opposed. Having been off the course for a year, Ben Chorley embarrassed the handicapper by romping home at Pontefract. The trainer confirmed afterwards that that was a far from unexpected success, and despite an eight pound rise in his rating in retaliation, Ben Chorley can score again on ground he likes.
