Verdict

Peeress might be good enough to give Sir Michael Stoute another success in this Group 1 contest, with Stablemate Rob Roy, Soviet Song and Majors Cast all out to stop her. Sir Michael Stoute has a terrific record in the Lockinge, having won it three times since 1996 with Soviet Line, Medicean and more recently Russian Rhythm, and has a strong hand here, saddling both Rob Roy and Peeress. Preference is just for the latter, as she fits the profile of most of Stoute's leading challengers in that she lines up without a prep run, as have three of his four winners of this contest overall. She has Group1 form as well, having captured the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket last October, and so, although only two fillies have won today's contest in the last 22 years, hopes are high that she can pull it off under the man for the big occasion Kieren Fallon. Stablemate Rob Roy was well fancied when coming back to land the Betfred.com Mile at Sandown, but not many have followed up, and unless it rains significantly, he is passed over. Soviet Song is a class act, having captured five Group 1 races, and with a mark of 119 is the highest rated here, but six-year-olds do not have a good record despite the success of Rakti 12 months ago. Of the rest, Majors Cast is worth a mention, but he has yet to win at this level, while last year's runner-up Macs Love has hardly improved. All in all, Peeress looks the most interesting and is worth chancing.
