In depth

Verdict

The shortlist contains Olympian Odyssey, Capricorn Run, Dimelight and Laqataat, with the vote going to the first-named. Olympian Odyssey showed plenty of promise on his Newmarket debut and, in a race that does not seem as strong as your usual Newbury maiden, gets the vote. Capricorn Run, a $950,000 Godolphin purchase, showed promise on his debut too and can be expected to improve, although he has to turn around form with the selection in order to score. Bold Argument, a half-brother to Funfair Wane, Muzher, who is related to winners, and David Elsworth's Dimelight are among the interesting newcomers, as is John Dunlop's well-bred Laqataat, and the trainer seems to have a fair bunch of juveniles this season. Overall, though, it might pay to side with experience, the reason why we are sticking with Olympian Odyssey.
