In depth

Verdict

Perhaps not quite as competitive as the size of the field implies and a chance is given to Ionian Spring. The Clive Cox-trained gelding is a useful performer at this level and makes plenty of appeal off a fair mark. The five-year-old was successful off a 1lb lower mark at Nottingham last season and, following a pleasing introduction at Newcastle late last month, is reunited with Pat Eddery who has struck a winning partnership with the son of Ela Mana Mou. Countess Miletrian landed a similar event over course and distance last August and is just 3lb higher so should go well if fit for her return while Honor Rouge goes well fresh and is fairly treated on the pick of last season's form. Athenian was well placed to record back-to-back victories over a mile at Ascot and Pontefract but, along with Clipperton, he has yet to show he stays this trip.Seal Of office is race-fit and showed signs of a return to form last time but Burgundy has been well below his best on the all-weather this winter and is best watched.
