In depth

Verdict

Pole Star is the one to beat here, with his main dangers rated as Darnayson, Fordingbridge, Genghis and What A Monday. The James Fanshawe-trained selection finished a highly-creditable six-length second to Marcel on his hurdling debut here and followed that up by scoring in good fashion at Doncaster. He could be very decent over hurdles and is clearly the one to beat. Darnayson has shown promise on each of his bumper runs and could go well, while much as Fordingbridge was slightly disappointing behind the subsequently Graded-placed It's Just Harry at Taunton last time, he had earlier shown a good deal of promise at the same venue. Genghis's Taunton fifth last time rates as fair form, and he could go well, while Nizzolino could be interesting from the German stable of Christian von der Recke. What A Monday made late headway on his hurdling debut and could make a place, while Spartan Place and Gold Again probably have better to come, but today is unlikely to be their day. Finally, Zeta's River, second in an Exeter chase last, has to be respected from the Martin Pipe stable, but we are happy to side with Pole Star.
