In depth

Verdict

Hyperalert can account for Well Hidden, with Ermine Sea, Reinstated and Altenburg seen as the other main dangers. Mark Johnston has his team in good shape at present, and as they all invariably improve for the run, Hyperalert should make a bold bid to open his account. Mind you, the son of Rahy should not even be lining up in a maiden, as he was all over the winner on his Redcar debut the other week until jockey Stanley Chin eased off too soon and was caught on the line by Eta Draconis. The apprentice received a 28-day holiday as a result, and you can be sure that there will be no such goings on in the saddle from Kevin Darley this evening. Well Hidden was a place behind Ermine Sea when they met at Haydock last time, although Robert Winston put up a pound overweight that day and Richard Hills does not, so she is entitled to improve enough on that debut effort to turn the tables on John Gosden's charge at least. Reinstated has improved moderately for the step up to middle-distances, but may be harshly treated on the ratings at present, while Altenburg is well-related and should like the trip. The rest are nothing special, with Crossbow Creek having a rare outing on the level, and Hyperalert should make amends for his unlucky defeat.
