In depth

Verdict

MONARCH OF EGYPT, a $750,000 yearling, is by first-season sire American Pharoah, eight times a Grade 1 winner in the USA, and out of a Group 2 winner. Connections will be keen to get him off to a winning start though, with Jim Bolger's horses still flying, Paso Doble could attract support despite the fact he's bred for much further. Phase After Phase cost 200,000gns as a yearling and is the first foal of a mare who won a Group 2 while the filly Kocasandra should have plenty of pace, though another furlong wouldn't go amiss. In The Present is a half-sister to a 6f winner so should be speedy enough.
