In depth

Verdict

A particularly weak race that will take little winning. Threat is perhaps excused a poor effort last time on account of the testing conditions and is better judged on his earlier third at Newcastle. Northern Svengali would have strong claims if reproducing the same level of form that saw him placed in Lingfield handicap earlier in the year but his more recent efforts have been disappointing and he does not have the best of draws. Wilson Blyth is thrown in last year's form but he appears on the downgrade and there was no encouragement for the first-time visors on his latest start. Both King Of Peru and Perigeux are capable but neither can be backed with confidence on recent evidence.
