Verdict

Dr Irv has done superbly since being stepped up to this trip and has won three of his last four including a length victory over Aleksandar at Catterick in July. The latter is much better off at the weights but has run poorly subsequently and the positions can be confirmed. Jan Smuts keeps finding one too good and has gone up in the weights without winning while it's over a year since Bowdler's Magic showed any real sign of form. HIT THE JACKPOT had never raced beyond 1m2f before finishing fourth in a similar class event at York last Sunday. He doesn't have much more to do here and, now connections know he stays the trip, he can gain his first success since Galway in 2011.
