In depth

Verdict

Blitzkrieg is the second Doug O'Neill runner on the card. A Grade 3 winner on Turf at Gulfstream, he arrives here fresh from a pipe-opener over a trip too short at Santa Anita where he wasn't beaten far and looks certain to make his mark at the carnival. Charlie Appleby, whose runners occupied the first three home a year ago, complicates matters with three entries again. Glorious Journey is top-rated of them though carries a penalty for his victory in Newbury's Hungerford Stakes. Mubtasim is a very smart handicapper who won on his reappearance here in February and again at Newmarket in April so the lack of a recent run shouldn't pose a problem. MYTHICAL MAGIC, runner-up last year, then easily landed the Group 2 Zabeel Mile. His two runs in the UK last summer were at Group 1 level and he's taken to come out on top this time. Godolphin also run Royal Meeting, a very lightly-raced colt whose last run was in a Group 1 handicap at Flemington so he's expected to do well at the carnival.
