Verdict

LORD CHANCELLOR is given the vote to step up on his promising third at Leicester last month; Simon Grey and Sonning Gate are those that could give him most to think about. The usual Mark Johnston tactics were applied at Leicester where he raced on the pace for most of the journey while the second, the 85-rated Three Moons had shown a fair level of form in maiden company beforehand. Simon Grey ran a creditable race last time in what looked quite a decent contest. The soft ground there would not have been entirely in his favour at Newbury while Sonning Gate was noted doing all his best work in the closing stages on debut and with nominal improvement from first to second runs, he is a player. Fortuni is another that was never put into the contest on debut. He holds entries in both the English and Irish Derby and is worth monitoring in the market with further improvement certain to come but Lord Chancellor is the selection.
