In depth

Verdict

Persea is the pick over Gone 'n' dunnett, Minimum Bid and Zorn to name but three. Persea is not badly weighted for her handicap debut after winning a maiden a shade cosily at Wolverhampton late last month, and the ex-French filly is expected to improve again now that she has fully settled in at Don Cantillon's stable. Michael Hills has been in the saddle for each of her three British starts and keeps the partnership intact here. Gone 'n'dunnett is on a fair mark again and chased the winner hard over five furlongs at Southwell last time. He will not mind the return to six furlongs and should be in there at the finish. Minimum Bid scooted up here the time before last but was then put back over seven furlongs, a trip that she has never won over. She has her right distance again but has topweight to contend with. All Zorn's victories have come on the fibresand but it is interesting that Kieren Fallon, who was down the field on him at Wolverhampton last time, keeps the ride on the six-year-old's return to his optimism trip. Hadath was sent off as favourite in selling company over the course and distance two weeks ago, but found one too good in Night Storm and has more to do here. So, for the winner we return to the progressive Persea who has more scope than her rivals here.
