Verdict

A maiden for three-year-olds at this time of year makes limited appeal for a serious punt as many still have to prove that they have trained on. Therefore, Sabbaag, who has already had the benefit of two runs this season, is given a tentative vote of confidence over Ascertain, Skidmark and Baawrah, who are expected to provide the main body of the opposition to the selection. David Loder was keen to run Sabbaag until a training accident ruled the son of Mark Of Esteem out of making an impact as a juvenile. However, he ran a fair race over an inadequate trip on his belated debut and showed the benefit of that run when getting off the mark at Southwell a week later. The step up in trip should not be a problem for the colt and a further improved effort is anticipated this afternoon.
