Verdict

The action on the Polytrack gets underway with an above average handicap featuring several progressive all-weather performers. They include Coolbythepool who bids for a hat-trick following two decisive victories at Wolverhampton over nine furlongs. Mark Johnston's charge should improve for the extra furlong and should give another good account off a subsequent 6lb rise if handling this quicker surface. Caroubier has been a consistent sort in the main and has place claims particularly with an in-form apprentice in the saddle but last month's narrow Southwell winner Dubai Dreams has more to do and may struggle off his revised mark. Cruise Director ran creditably behind the smart Pretence over a mile here last month but is far from certain to get this trip so the vote goes to Makulu. Brian Meehan's charge has proved well suited to both track and trip, winning twice over course and distance, and put up a fine effort when chasing home the potentially top-class Lundy's Lane in a valuable conditions event here last time. The son of Alzao looks capable of further improvement and can take advantage of this drop in grade under Robert Winston.
