In depth

Verdict

Not an easy race to call with a number of possibles but Southampton Joe won in spite of the ground last time and, with conditions more to his advantage, is the TEAMtalk choice to come out on top. Ian Balding's charge is progressing along the right lines and was a narrow winner over course and distance when last seen out in action. The son of Just A Cat has gone up 6lb since but useful apprentice Liam Keniry takes 5lb off and he looks sure to give another good account. However, there are plenty of dangers including Paradise Valley, who was a close second over this trip at Warwick last time, as well as the lightly raced Winning Note. The latter looks open to plenty of improvement for the step up in trip having been outpaced in sprint maidens and is potentially well treated while Cafe Americano and Ombudsman are others who have the scope to progress further and should be thereabouts.
