In depth

Verdict

Aeronaut and Mr Sandicliffe are two interesting newcomers in this two-year-old maiden but John Claude has the benefit of two outings and is taken to make it third time lucky. Neville Callaghan's colt made a very promising debut when fourth to Lord Jack Flash at Yarmouth, before coming up against two useful looking sorts at Brighton. Unless the debutante's are something special he should be capable of landing this modest looking race. Mr Sandicliffe is trained by Barry Hills and is a well related son of Mujahid. With the stable in such good form he has to be monitored closely in the betting. The same applies to the Richard Hannon trained Aeronaut, who was cheaply purchased but is related to some useful types. Scooby Dude looks the pick of the other experienced horse but John Claude's form stands up to close inspection and he gets our vote.
