Verdict

MERCHANT OF VENICE (NAP) won a shade more cosily over track and trip than the winning margin suggests to land a double. Raised only 3lb, the hat-trick beckons for James Fanshawe’s charge. La Maquina scored over 7f here on his first start after wind surgery and has yet to race over this far while Divine Messenger and Directory won their respective latest starts but are upped in class today. King's Slipper went close here when last in action in October and Dragons Voice’s double last year included a course and distance success.
