In depth

Verdict

The Miner can defy topweight at the expense of Nectar De Guye, Ryminster and Baligrundle. The top two on the racecard should have this between them, with preference for The Miner who is one of two runners here for local trainer Sandie Forster. The topweight has not won since landing a novices' event here in 2004, but he has run with credit on a few occasions this winter, and is now as well handicapped as he has ever been. In addition he can now meet Baligrundle on 3lb better terms for the length-and-threequarters that separated them at Newcastle a fortnight ago, and hopes are high that he can gain a deserved success today. Nectar De Guye has yet to open his account on these shores, and was very one-paced when beaten at Sedgefield last time. However, he is still on a learning curve at the age of six and Ferdy Murphy is sure to get to the bottom of the French import sooner or later. He can make the frame at least, while of the rest, Ryminster, a course-and-distance scorer on his return to action in November, makes some appeal, but in a race that will take little winning, we return to The Miner as the pick.
