In depth

Verdict

Italiano gained a deserved success when holding on from perennial bridesmaid Factor Fifteen at Catterick last month and may struggle to follow up under a penalty so the vote goes to Master Sebastian, who is preferred to Portavadie. The last mentioned fulfilled earlier promise when landing a bumper at the fourth attempt at Haydock last time and Malcolm Jefferson's gelding has to be respected on his hurdling bow here although lack of experience is of concern. Len Lungo introduces the son of Topanoora Top Dawn, who would not need to be out of the ordinary to win first time out. Fencote would look to be the second string from Peter Beaumont's stable behind Italiano and a bigger threat may come from Alistair Charlton's Double Gem, who has shown promise in bumpers is entitled to improve for his hurdling debut at Huntingdon last month. The vote though goes to Master Sebastian; Lucinda Russell's gelding, a winner over course and distance in January has been keeping decent company and a reproduction of his best form may suffice here.
