In depth

Verdict

Ballydoyle's War Envoy is the sole European hope but the Britannia Stakes winner looks outmatched in this as he is up against one of the hot favourites at this year's Breeders' Cup in LIAM'S MAP. Todd Pletcher has chosen this contest rather than the Classic on Saturday for his Grade 1 Woodward Stakes winner and the committed front-runner is certainly the one to beat. Lea and Wicked Strong have been competing at the highest level but both were a long way behind the selection at Saratoga in August and Red Vine may prove a bigger threat coming off a big run in Grade 2 company at Belmont. Bradester and Valid are closely matched on recent running while Tapiture finished runner-up in last year's renewal but has yet to repeat that form so far this year and won only a Grade 3 contest last time.
