In depth

Verdict

The Bouresly operation is in full swing at present and the pair at the bottom of this handicap added to the stable tally last week at Meydan. Miqyaas probably didn't have much to beat in a 6f maiden but did it nicely and as that was his first run since April there should be plenty more to come and the longer trip shouldn't pose a problem. Shanty Star landed a maiden over this trip at the same meeting so is entitled to respect as is Doug Watson's Native Appeal, who has won twice here in recent weeks and still looks well treated. But ZAINHOM (NAP) looks the one to beat despite a poor strike-rate. Placed in Listed company at Abu Dhabi, he wasn't beaten far in the Group 2 Zabeel Mile at Meydan before runner-up to Velorum in a Carnival handicap back there last month. Those races were on Turf and he comes back to Dirt on a 17lb lower mark. Gold Stick, a winner at Wetherby for John Gosden, has his first start since July and on this surface.
