In depth

Verdict

Carthorne, High Country and Pearson Glen are three against the field in this competitive novices' hurdle and the narrow vote is given to Carthorne. The selection won well last time out when beating Spuradich and although he has a penalty for that win he scored with a little in hand and he is taken to defy the handicapper under conditions that suit. High Country rates the main danger as he won well on his debut when beating Greenfoot Brave. He looks sure to improve and will not be far away. However he will find this tougher under his penalty and at likely odds he looks worth opposing. Pearson Glen is another with place claims on his latest third behind Bergerac but he may just need the run after a 128 day absence and he looks opposable on that basis. Skiddaw Jones is game and consistent and is sure to run his race but he has had plenty of chances and for the winner we return to the unexposed Carthorne.
