Verdict

James Lambe's runners always warrant respect when they are sent over to the UK and Hawksbury Heights is no exception having won sellers here and at Sedgefield this time last year but he was well held on his belated reappearance and a better bet may be MICKMACMAGOOLE, who gets the verdict ahead of Stormin Heart. Don McCain's gelding remains a maiden but has shown some promise in better races than this so he cannot be discounted. Lahib The Fifth is capable but has disappointed for Nicky Richards and has failed to trouble the judge since winning a handicap at Worcester three years ago so he looks best watched. John McConnell's Commons Glory has yet to reproduce bumper form over hurdles, while Peter Monteith's Solis ran better when dropped into a claimer at Perth last time but he remains another that has yet to win a race over timber. Preference then is for the Evan Williams-trained Mickmacmagoole, who is not the most straightforward of performers and has not taken to fences in his last two starts but he has an obvious chance back over hurdles in this company.
