In depth

Verdict

Golden Promise finished runner-up in a Worcester bumper before chasing home the odds-on What's Occurring over hurdles here last month. Gwalia, who started a much shorter price, attempted to take on the winner and was done with approaching the last but should finish much closer if ridden with more restraint. Newtown Boy cost E100,000 and is a half-brother to three winning hurdlers. He'll be better for his two bumper runs in the spring and looks certain to go well. ROUGE VIF won a Ludlow bumper in March then led for a long way on his hurdling bow at Newton Abbot. The ground was very testing that day and today's better conditions can see him make all. Jarveys Plate was well supported when landing a Perth bumper in April and is another to watch out for.
