    Verdict

KING OF REASON was unlucky to bump into a smart rival last time and can go one place better today at the main expense of Tafawut, Secretive and Layla's Lexi. David Simcock has his horses in great form and this King's Best gelding made a bright start to his three-year-old career with a solid Goodwood second earlier in the month. He enters handicaps on a mark of 79 which looks fair and with this longer trip likely to suit he should run well. Tafawut is held by Layla's Lexi on their run here last month but has since run well in defeat at Goodwood and his jockey is good value for his claim, Secretive continues to give his all in his own funny way and is not to be ignored, whilst Royal Patriot is not to be dismissed as he steps up in trip. On The Cusp represents Michael Jarvis who saddled Sard to beat the selection last time so this gelding is respected, especially as his third to Mighty Clarets at Newcastle was a step in the right direction and it coincided with running on quick ground. Layla's Lexi is 4lb higher than her win here in April but she fared quite well at Newmarket earlier in the month and is not discounted from bottom-weight. A tough handicap to call but the best case can be made for King Of Reason.
