In depth

Verdict

ELITE LAND has the ground to suit and is fancied to oblige here; Ghufa and Magnitude may provide the stiffest opposition in what looks a very winnable race. Brian Ellison's charge has been in fair form over hurdles of late, winning at Stratford and Ayr with devastating late runs. His best form has come on ground like this so with a mark of 65 looking fair a bold bid is expected. Hunters Belt looks the stereotypical 'man's ride' so with all respect to the excellently named Shirley Teasdale the pairing are passed over despite some promising efforts since switching from bumpers, whilst Magnitude wins awards for consistency but his best efforts have come in a lesser grade and he needs to improve, although the return to this trip could enable that. Parc Des Princes didn't set the world alight on his latest run at Windsor but that should have brought him forward and he is not ignored given his progression last year. His jockey is yet to ride a winner under rules, something that cannot be said of Alex Edwards or Matthew Cosham. That winning feeling is something that ensures neither jockey's mount can be left out, despite a lack of solid recent form. Ghufa ran well on Wednesday having been set an awful lot to do by his jockey; he would be of interest if turned out here and a repeat of his run behind Lytham in April should see him go close. Stage Acclaim is fresh from a recent win over hurdles at Huntingdon and is considered accordingly, however we are happy to plump for Elite Land as the selection.
