BERTOG gained an overdue victory at Doncaster last week and is still well treated on his old form, despite the penalty. It would be no surprise to see him complete the double. Zip’s handicap mark never seems to vary and he’ll enjoy conditions more than most. His latest fourth at Thirsk was another decent effort and he shouldn't be far away again so is preferred to stablemate Gabrial The Tiger. Another former Fahey inmate, Private Matter, probably has place claims but races mainly on the all-weather nowadays. Tranchee and Reckless Endeavour also have a squeak.
Reckless Endeavour (IRE) 11-2 (9-5) In rear, pushed along and response inside final 3f, moderate late headway, 6th of 9, 7 1/2l behind Athollblair Boy (9-5) at Newcastle 6f hcp (4) pol in Feb.
Medicine Jack 9-1 (9-3) In rear, well beaten final 3f, last of 11, 9l behind Bossipop (9-3) at Ripon 6f hcp (4) gs in Jun.
Lapidary 40-1 (9-4) Held up towards rear, never on terms, 8th of 13, 4 1/2l behind Badayel (9-6) at Windsor 6f hcp (4) gd in Jun.
Gabrial The Tiger (IRE) 9-2fav (8-10) Led 3f, chased leader until 2f out, ridden and weakened final furlong, 11th of 12, 13 1/2l behind Confrontational (8-10) at Chester 7f hcp (4) sft in Sep.
Private Matter 9-2 (9-7) Led, ridden and headed over 1f out, no extra well inside final furlong, 4th of 10, 3l behind Human Nature (9-6) at Kempton 6f hcp (5) pol in Jun.
Zip 7-1 (9-4) In touch, ridden and headway over 1f out, stayed on one pace, 4th of 13, 3/4l behind Magical Effect (9-4) at Thirsk 7f hcp (4) gs in Jun.

Bell Heather (IRE) 11-1 (9-7) Tracked leaders, ridden and unable to quicken over 1f out, kept on one pace, 3rd of 12, 2 1/4l behind Seaforth (9-3) at Wolverhampton 7f hcp (6) pol in Jun.
