Verdict

Cedarlea showed enough on his debut to suggest that he can cope with today's challenge; Joseph Locke and Princess Ellis can provide the biggest threats from the rest. Princess Ellis showed improved form on her second start and was in the process of running a big race when she unseated her rider after meeting interference at Beverley last week. The daughter of Compton Place suffered no obvious effects and, with Franny Norton in the plate, it will come as no surprise to see her make a bold attempt to banish the memory. Joseph Locke has shown promise in each of his previous starts and, as this looks easier than his most recent assignment at Newmarket, he cannot be ruled out. A betting move in his direction would be most interesting. Nevertheless, Cedarlea has stacks more scope for improvement and, with his yard in flying form, he just edges a narrow verdict today.
