Verdict

A disappointingly small field here, but that maybe makes our task a little easier, and we'll side with NIGHT SINGER ahead of Dr Noverre and Glitter Bug. Howard Johnson's colt is having his third outing, and if he shows the same improvement from debut to his second run, that may be enough to land the spoils. Last time out he comfortably held Mark Johnston's Glitter Bug, although the latter reared at the start and was left with too much to do. The yard's runners tend to improve from debut, and they had the winner of this contest last year. Dr Noverre was narrowly beaten on debut, and if the race had been run over another two yards he'd have won, but it remains to be seen whether he'd be able to repeat that. He is though Kevin Ryan's only runner on the card. Crabbies Bay is the only debutant, and market support could be significant, Roodee Queen is racing for the eighth time, and after three promising runs looked regressive when slowly away last time out. Having James Sullivan on board with his 5lb claim could be an advantage, but we prefer the claims of Night Singer.
