Lieutenant Miller finished second in last year's renewal and is partnered by Ryan Moore in an attempt to go one better. He found the Mark Johnston-trained Broxbourne too good last season and the Middleham handler bids for a third straight win in this with the highly progressive MAID IN RIO. She beat older horses by nine lengths over 2m at Ascot last time with arguably her best effort yet and can shrug off a 3lb penalty. Longshadow is another making rapid progress but is up in class for this along with recent Beverley winner Stopped Out. Lion Beacon won over 1m6f here last month and makes more appeal than stablemate Presto Volante while Solar View, a prolific winner over 2m, should stay today's marathon trip. Brockwell could only manage fifth in this last year and Sohar is preferred on her latest fourth over 2m4f at Ascot where she beat a few of these.
