Verdict

Soviet Song gets the nod in Goodwood's feature race, while George Washington has got to be respected and is potentially more of a threat than Rob Roy, who appears to be finally on the brink of living up to his home reputation but faces a tough test under his Group 2 penalty. That said, Caradak wouldn't have much to find were he to run to his best and, with the return to a mile in his favour, Frankie Dettori's mount will be dangerous to ignore; especially if the market speaks in his favour before the off. By way of contrast, Killybegs and River Tiber both have a lot to prove and are not hard to overlook on this occasion. The former has plenty to find on recent form, while River Tiber appears to be here to ensure there is a solid pace. He is very much the second string to Aidan O'Brien's bow. This year's 2,000 Guineas hero George Washington is sure to attract all the headlines and the attention of the press. Which, despite the colt possessing a devastating turn of foot, is also likely to lead to cramped odds being available for his long awaited reappearance. The moderate performances from this year's three-year-olds against their elders has also been disappointing, so George Washington's price is very off-putting. Therefore, it can pay to give Soviet Song another roll of the dice. James Fanshawe's filly knows her way around here well and it is her proven well being and experience of the track that make her the stand out bet in this year's renewal.
