Verdict

Several leading yards are double-handed again in this. William Haggas sent out last year’s winner Battered and easy Ripon winner Restive Spirit looks a similar type. Jockey bookings suggest he’s preferred to Nicklaus, who is on a hat-trick. On The Warpath won twice on Fibresand for Sir Mark Prescott last year and was then bought by Godolphin, though was a beaten favourite on his first start for new connections at Newmarket and has been gelded since. Zap wasn’t beaten far in a bunch finish to a valuable handicap at Ascot last week and Chai Chai won easily at Chester three weeks ago, though this is much tougher event. Vale Of Kent was just caught here on Wednesday but his tough stablemate LAKE VOLTA (NAP) is just as interesting. The top weight is 2-2 under De Sousa and won a Listed race at Epsom in June. He’s been dropped a pound since his latest third at Newbury and the fourth beat Vale Of Kent earlier in the week.
