In depth

Verdict

Plenty of unexposed types in opposition for a trappy affair and marginal preference goes to Kafuwain while Blue Tomato, Venetian Pride and Signor Panettiere are also leading contenders. Jeremy Noseda's charge confirmed the promise of earlier starts when losing his maiden tag at Ayr last month. The Mark Of Esteem colt impressed by cruising throughout and wasn't hard ridden to prevail suggesting he won with more in hand than the official winning margin. Blue Tomato showed the benefit of a previous run when gamely landing a decent York maiden and is another who could easily prove good enough with further progress anticipated while Venetian Pride wasn't beaten far in a Newbury Listed contest last time having made a smooth winning debut at Hamilton previously. Mark Johnston has a strong team of juveniles and it would be no surprise to see the Gone West filly go close despite carrying top weight. Signor Panettiere looked a smart prospect when making a winning debut at Kempton in March but has failed to progress since and may be best watched on this occasion so Kafuwain looks the safest choice with the in-form Pat Eddery on board.
