Verdict

CALCULATED RISK is the obvious choice despite conceding weight all round with so much in his favour. He's more than capable in this grade, has already posted two selling hurdle successes at this venue this year and has also proved he retains the ability to remain competitive at a higher handicap hurdle level. His ability to operate on any ground is an added plus and he really should be good enough to make it three wins at Ffos Las this year. Barton Rose wasn't disgraced in a similar contest behind Zulu Oscar at Newton Abbot last month and looks the main threat in receipt of 11lb, not taking into account respective conditional jockey allowances. Bowberry is the possible unexposed performer as he was a dual winner on the Flat for Clive Cox last year but has yet to show any comparable ability since going over timber.
