BATTLING SPIRIT (NAP) was having only his second start over fences when scoring at Thurles where he stayed on strongly. The longer trip is in his favour and he's starting out in handicaps on a fair mark. The Church Gate was in fine form over hurdles at the end of last year, winning handicaps here and at Leopardstown. He was forced out when challenging over fences at Limerick last time and is greatly respected. Alto Esqua has dropped to such a lowly mark that he has to be considered while Rachael Blackmore will get a tune out of Surf Instructor, who has performed with credit at a slightly higher grade. Presenting Julio stays the trip well but had jumping problems when last seen at the backend of last year.
