In depth

Verdict

Macmar can provide his back-to-form yard with another winner; possibly at the main expense of his old rival East Lawyer and Visibility. The last named is obviously respected on the pick of last season's form and may still have scope to improve from his current mark. However, he faces a stiff test in giving weight away and needs to be at his very best. As does East Lawyer, whose confidence will have been boosted by a clear round at Chepstow at the start of this month. He is capable of making this a good test and is worth noting in the betting market. Jacks Crack, who showed ability over hurdles, is one to note for next time as he makes his debut in this sphere today, while Spectrometer is also respected, as he has a habit of popping in now and again. However, his faithful supporters know exactly what they are getting with him and his willingness to perform has to be taken on trust. A more reliable option comes in the shape of Macmar, who is expected to have benefited greatly from his reappearance sixteen days ago. Robert Alner scored with a timely winner at Wincanton yesterday and looks to have another capable sort in the shape of Macmar this afternoon's scrimmages.
